As
simple as 1-2-3 !
Just connect the OptiMate 3 to your battery, and the 5-stage
automatic programme does the rest ........
Step
1
- Battery check and recovery stage - Tests the battery for possible deep discharge
or sulphation. If necessary, the OptiMate 3 automatically engages
a special high voltage recovery mode (up to 20V, for maximum 2 hours) with a
very low fixed current, which recovers many very flat batteries from as low
as 2V.
Step 2 - Bulk charge stage - Charges at 0,6 Amps constant current until such time as the battery is normally able to crank the engine.
Step 3 - Verification stage – A “charge & check” cycle ensures that even well-used batteries are brought to full charge saturation. If necessary the programme reverts automatically to the bulk charging stage, repeating steps 2 & 3 as many times as may be necessary until the battery is thoroughly charged.
Step
4 - Voltage retention test - During a 30 minute pause in charging,
the circuit monitors the battery's voltage to identify batteries unable to retain
an adequate charge. The green LED
indicates that the battery has passed the charge retention test and is able
to deliver power and the red LED
warns that the battery voltage failed to remain above 12V.
(A fully charged, undamaged lead-acid battery should retain a voltage
of at least 12,5V without charger support.)
Step
5 - Maintenance / float charge stage - Irrespective of the voltage
retention test result, a maximum voltage of 13,6V is applied with up to 600mA
available to support a vehicle alarm or other small loads.
The voltage retention check (step 4) is repeated every 30 minutes and alternates
thereafter with step 5 for as long as OptiMate 3 and battery
remain connected, to identify if a connected load (such as an alarm), or aged
/ faulty vehicle wiring is draining excessive current from the battery.
Delivered
with two interchangeable connection sets, one with clamps for
bench charging, the other with a weatherproof in-line connector and protection
fuse and eyelet terminals for permanent attachment to the posts of the battery
on the vehicle to allow easy connection and disconnection of the charger.
