Maintains
your battery automatically for months
All major battery manufacturers recommend
maintaining starter batteries FULLY CHARGED during periods of non-use. Maintenance
charging at the correct voltage is also very important. Sealed batteries should
be maintained at 13,5 to 13,7V. A charger supplying a lower maintenance voltage
may allow a sealed battery to discharge to a level that does not allow successful
starting of the motor. Other than forgetting the ignition or lights on, a vehicle
alarm, aged wiring or even the battery itself (as the battery ages it will self
discharge quicker) are the main causes of current drain.
OptiMate 3 provides a maintenance voltage of 13,6V which is applied for 30 minutes
out of every hour. During the remaining 30 minutes the battery voltage is monitored.
This 50% duty cycle maintenance mode is also designed to allow filler cap batteries
to be safely maintained without loss of electrolyte.
OptiMate III / 3 is totally safe
for season-long connection to irregularly or seasonally used batteries while
still connected to the vehicle. The sophisticated charging algorithm ensures
no risk of over-charging.
